VIRTUAL PHYSIOTHERAPY WITH TELE-REHAB

...

Our clinic has started providing Tele-Rehab or Telehealth Physiotherapy through a secured video conference system; this is a virtual program/app that is available for the desktop, laptop, tablet, smart Phone or smart TV. This app allows a face-to-face physioherapy session between the client and the therapist for an assessment leading to a diagnosis and discussion of the problem. Self-applied treatment and exercise instructions will then be provided. Research evidence has shown this could be as effective as hands-on treatment in most cases. Most insurance companies such as Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross etc. cover virtual care.

COVID 19: Under certain and special condition that you require in-person assessment, we may see you at the clinic. Please give us a call at 905-785-2789 or email us (healthcare@freedominmovement.ca). Someone at the clinic will screen you for appropriateness to be seen in person.

REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy is one of the many health professions in Canada that focuses on the treatment and prevention of physical injury and disease. Physiotherapists have completed a university degree and continue to up-grade their training with post-graduate courses. At your first visit, they will perform an assessment to prepare an individualized treatment plan designed to restore function. This may include manual therapy techniques to mobilize the joints and soft tissues, massage therapy to release the myofascial tissue, electrical modalities to control inflammation and pain, and exercise prescription to stretch and strengthen the muscles. There is also an education component to physiotherapy that will address posture, body mechanics, ergonomics, work habits, pathology, injury prevention and return to sport/recreation.

Rehabilitation is also a big part of physiotherapy to help people to maximize their function to return to daily activities after trauma, accidents or onset of any neurological disorders. In addition, chest physiotherapy will assist people to breathe better by maximizing lung function with breathing exercise and lung mobilization techniques. It is very beneficial for post-operation and for people with pulmonary diseases, such as cystic fibrosis.

Physiotherapists in Ontario are registered with and regulated by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario for the public safety. The college regulates physiotherapy provided by all registered physiotherapists but not physiotherapy provided by others.

ACUPUNCTURE AND ACUPRESSURE

Acupuncture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine that originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy, called "qi", that circulates through twelve invisible energy lines known as meridians on the body. Each meridian is associated with a different organ system. An imbalance in the flow of qi throughout a meridian is how disease begins. There are over 1,000 acupuncture points in the body.

Acupuncturists insert needles into specified points along meridian lines to influence and to restore balance to the flow of qi. It could also reduce pain and inflammation and restore function to achieve better joint/muscle function. Acupuncture is one of the most popular alternative therapies in North America with more and more research evidence.

Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and some accredited universities have programs to teach health professionals to perform acupuncture within their scope of practice.

Acupressure is a hands-on technique using pressure on acupuncture points to release tension of the muscles, joints and nerves. It is a great alternative for people who are afraid of needles.
